Reacher star Alan Ritchson has reacted with elation to the recent news that the show has been renewed for a second season on Amazon Prime. Taking to Instagram to respond to the announcement, which was made very quickly following the premiere of Reacher, Ritchson could not help but leave the stoicism of Jack Reacher behind and allow his excitement to burst forth.

“Whoaaaaaa!!! This is incredible!” Alan Ritchson said of the news. “Unlike Reacher who chooses to say nothing, I’m simply speechless. In just our opening weekend you’ve made #ReacheronPrime one of @primevideo most watched shows EVER! That is insane. There are so many people I’m grateful to for making this show as enjoyable as it is. But all of the creative genius and unwavering commitment by all those behind this would amount to nothing if you weren’t enjoying the world of Reacher. Thank you, thank you, thank you. If you’ve enjoyed the show tell somebody. If you haven’t had the chance to dive in yet… all aboard!”

Reacher’s second season renewal came courtesy of a statement from Amazon Studios, which revealed that the crime thriller is now one of the platform's biggest releases. “The phenomenal debut of Reacher is a testament to Lee Child’s creation of one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, Nick Santora’s original approach to the storytelling, Alan’s brilliant embodiment of the character, and the dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera to make such an undeniably bingeworthy series,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “The global impact of Reacher makes it one of Prime Video’s biggest series debuts, and we can’t wait to bring fans a second season of their new favorite show.”

Reacher Season 2 Will Cover Lee Child’s Second Book, Die Trying

Leading man Alan Ritchson has revealed previously that each season of Reacher will cover one of Lee Child’s source novels. "I'll say that we're gonna be doing a book a season, so the first season will be the first book. I think that's such a great way to do this. I can see why it'd be exciting as a film, but the slow burn is what I love so much about the books,” the actor said last year. Thus, we can safely assume that Reacher Season 2 will cover the novel Die Trying, which finds the nomadic action hero in Chicago, where he is mysteriously captured along with a woman who has ties with the FBI.

Until then, the first series of Reacher is now available on Amazon Prime. Starring Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher alongside Malcolm Goodwin as Oscar Finlay, Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe Conklin, Chris Webster as KJ, Hugh Thompson as Baker, Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, Harvey Guillén as Jasper, Kristin Kreuk as Charlie, Currie Graham as Kliner Sr., Marc Bendavid as Hubble, Willie C. Carpenter as Mosley, and Bruce McGill as Mayor Teale, Season 1 finds Reacher visiting the fictional rural town of Margrave, Georgia, and quickly becoming embroiled in a violent clash with a brutal criminal conspiracy.
