One of the biggest stories yesterday came from director Neill Blomkamp, who stated that his Untitled Alien Sequel will be connected to the original 1979 classic Alien and its 1986 sequel Aliens. Those comments were believed to imply that his movie will essentially eradicate Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, but, apparently that's not the case. While continuing his promotional tour for Chappie, the director revealed that his movie will not "undo" the last two sequels.
"My favorites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that's connected to Alien and Aliens. That's my goal. I'm not trying to undo Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, I just want it to be connected to Alien 1 and 2."
Of course, we know absolutely nothing about the story thus far, except that it will bring back Sigourney Weaver as her iconic Ripley character. Still, since Ripley was killed in Alien 3 and brought back as a clone in Alien Resurrection, it isn't known how this new story will unfold, or where exactly it is set within the Alien timeline. The concept art illustrations also feature Aliens star Michael Biehn as Dwayne Hicks, so perhaps it could take place sometime between the original Alien and Alien 3.
Sigourney Weaver also added that there are "many more" concept art illustrations that Neill Blomkamp didn't post on his Instagram page, although, when pressed for story details, she wouldn't offer anything concrete.
"It's something we're just now beginning to flesh out, and I'm afraid the public will have to wait, but it will be very organic. I'm looking forward to being with her again. She's a very interesting character, and I always thought it was a great privilege to play her."
