James Cameron has announced there will be free early screenings of his highly-anticipated Alita: Battle Angel on January 31st. The sneak showings will be playing in thirty cities across the United States, everywhere from Boston to San Francisco to Kansas City. So it's quite possible you could be close enough to catch one.

Despite the sci-fi epic being directed by Sin City director Robert Rodriguez, James Cameron is serving as a lead producer on the movie so it makes sense he is delivering the exciting news. Cameron is, of course, best known for directing a number of massive hits like Aliens, Titanic and Avatar - to name a few. He's also currently at work on helming all four of the Avatar sequels, which are set to hit theaters in the coming years. But his work as a producer is just as impressive, with Alita: Battle Angel being no exception. He revealed the free early screenings via social media, in which he would quickly make the joke of saying he "finally joined Facebook and Instagram" just so that he could share the news.

Based on the manga Gunnm (also known as Battle Angel Alita) by Yukito Kishiro, the cyberpunk action movie tells the story of the titular Alita, who wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world as a disembodied "core." A man named Dr. Ido discovers the helpless Alita and gives her a whole new body. Alita has no memory of her past life, but she soon discovers that she has extraordinary powers and that many wish to see those destroyed forever. The film stars Rosa Salazar as Alita and Christoph Waltz as Dr. Ido, as well as Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, and Jackie Earle Haley.

To find out if you are in one of the thirty lucky cities for the early screenings, all you have to do is check out the link below Cameron's video and type in your zip code. As previously mentioned, the screenings are taking place all around the United States so there's plenty of chances to see it. But of course, there will definitely be many dedicated fans of the manga who would be willing to travel for it, but that's up to you.

It's not everyday when early screenings are granted like this, not to mention them being free for everybody. Plus once the screenings happen, this will at least give the rest of us an idea of what Alita: Battle Angel looks like. Considering all the talent involved, there's plenty of hope for this sci-fi epic to be a huge hit. However there's just as big of a chance for the film to fall into very familiar territory. It is nice to see though that the people making Alita, such as Cameron, are very passionate about the project. Hopefully that passion will come through to give audiences a ride worth their time. Alita: Battle Angel's limited early screenings will take place on January 31st before the film opens wide on February 14th. This announcement comes directly from James Cameron's Instagram and Facebook.
