Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton play a dangerous cat-and-mouse game in the trailer for Amazon’s upcoming espionage thriller, All the Old Knives. Looking like something akin to a stern-faced take on Mr. And Mrs. Smith with a heavy dose of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy thrown in for good measure, All the Old Knives is due for release on Prime Video next month.

Described as a modern-day espionage thriller, All the Old Knives follows Henry (Chris Pine) as he investigates Celia (Thandiwe Newton), a past flame from their days as CIA intelligence officers in Vienna, who is now under suspicion of having been a double agent. Henry and Celia meet over dinner to reminisce on their time together at Vienna station, but the conversation moves quickly to the disastrous hijacking of Royal Jordanian Flight 127, which ended in the deaths of all on board. That failure haunts the CIA to this day, and Henry seeks to close the book on that seedy chapter. Over a sumptuous dinner, it becomes clear that one of them is not going to survive the meal.

Using flashbacks to weave together multiple timelines, All the Old Knives peels back the layers of their past romance and exposes the truth behind the devastating terrorist attack they were unable to stop.

Directed by Janus Metz Pedersen, All the Old Knives is based on the novel of the same name by Olen Steinhauer, who has adapted his work into the screenplay for the upcoming adaptation. The movie stars Chris Pine as Henry Pelham and Thandiwe Newton as Celia Harrison, the ex-lovers, and spies trying to catch each other out. The supporting cast is made up of Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Pryce, Gala Gordon, Corey Johnson, Colin Stinton, Ahd Kamel, and David Bedella.

All the Old Knives looks like the perfect cold-palette thriller and should give both Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton, two well-respected and hugely confident talents, ample opportunity to impress as they try to trick both one another and the audience.

All the Old Knives is scheduled to be released in limited theaters and on digital on Amazon Prime Video on April 8, 2022.

Once he has finished his upcoming spy game in All the Old Knives and has either wound up captured, dead, on the run, miserable or a combination of all four, Chris Pine will return to the Enterprise in the recently announced Star Trek 4.

Commencement on Star Trek 4 was announced last month, with Paramount confirming that both J.J. Abrams and the original cast will return for the long-awaited sequel. “We are thrilled to say that we are hard at work on a new ‘Star Trek’ film that will be shooting by the end of the year that will be featuring our original cast and some new characters that I think are going to be really fun and exciting and help take ‘Star Trek’ into areas that you’ve just never seen before,” Abrams said in a statement. The news reportedly surprised Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaña, and John Cho.
