Those feisty Chipmunks fought off an onslaught of new DVD's to stay atop the DVD sales heap. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Alvin and the Chipmunks stayed put in the top spot on the DVD sales charts.

It wasn't easy work for the Chipmunks, though, as several new releases vied for the crown as well. Water Horse: Legend of the Deep just barely came up short in second place with the critically-acclaimed There Will Be Blood right behind in third. The two other new releases to crack the top 10 in sales this week were Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story in fifth and Lions for Lambs in seventh.

On the rental side, There Will Be Blood took the top honors with an estimated $8.5 million in rental revenue while Alvin and the Chipmunks, last week's top renter, slipped to second place with $7.2 million. Lions for Lambs took third in rentals with $6.8 million, Water Horse: Legend of the Deep was just behind it in fourth with $6.7 million and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story finished in seventh with $5.7 million.

I Am Legend [Blu-ray] regained the top spot in Blu-Ray sales after Alvin and the Chipmunks took the top spot last week.
