Former child star Amanda Bynes wants to end her conservatorship. In 2013, Bynes' mother Lynn was granted temporary conservatorship over the actress when Bynes allegedly set fire to a neighbor's driveway and was detained by police. Lynn regained conservatorship a year later following mental health evaluations, and Bynes announced soon after she'd been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and struggled with addiction. Now, the 35-year-old actress has hired lawyer David A. Esquibias to help end the conservatorship. As Esquibias tells People, "Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary."It was reported in September 2021 that Bynes' next health update for the court was scheduled for January 2023. Esquibias says that this doesn't mean her conservatorship was extended through 2023, noting that "her conservatorship will terminate when it is no longer convenient for Amanda." The hearing is set for March 22.This news has gotten the hashtag #FreeAmanda trending on social media. After Britney Spears successfully terminated her own conservatorship, many supporters had announced their plans to next rally for Bynes. With the former child star now filing to terminate, there are thousands of supporters turning their focus to Bynes.

A former child star, Amanda Bynes first made a name for herself in the 1990s on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series All That. This led to her starring in her own spinoff, The Amanda Show, before she later went on to star in the WB sitcom What I Like About You. She has appeared in many movies, such a Big Fat Liar, What a Girl Wants, She's the Man, and Hairspray. Her final role before stepping away from acting was in the 2010 comedy Easy A opposite Emma Stone.

“I literally couldn’t stand my appearance in that movie and I didn’t like my performance,” Bynes said of her Easy A role, later revealing to Paper that watching the film made her quit acting. “I was absolutely convinced I needed to stop acting after seeing it. I was high on marijuana when I saw that but for some reason it really started to affect me. I don’t know if it was a drug-induced psychosis or what, but it affected my brain in a different way than it affects other people. It absolutely changed my perception of things.”

She added, "I saw it and I was convinced that I should never be on camera again and I officially retired on Twitter, which was, you know, also stupid. If I was going to retire [the right way], I should've done it in a press statement — but I did it on Twitter. Real classy! But, you know, I was high and I was like, 'You know what? I am so over this' so I just did it. But it was really foolish and I see that now. I was young and stupid."

Last year, Bynes released a preview of a new rap song, revealing that she was trying out a new career as a rapper. Her debut song, dubbed "Diamonds," and featuring Precise (Bynes' boyfriend Paul Michael), features Bynes performing lines like, "Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, on my neck, on my wrist."

It's unclear where Bynes' rap career currently stands as she has not yet released a lengthier version of the song nor made any additional announcements concerning her foray into hip hop.
