Perhaps What I Like About You will be the next sitcom from the past to get a series revival. Originally airing on The WB for four seasons from 2002 to 2006, the series followed two sisters living in New York played by Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth. Bynes has since retired from acting and hasn't taken on a new role since the 2010 comedy Easy A.
Bynes considers herself retired and has no immediate plans to get back into acting, but she admits that she would step out of retirement for a potential revival of What I Like About You. Speaking with TMZ, Bynes says she's "very interested" in bringing back the sitcom with new episodes. The former child star adds that she hasn't discussed the potential revival with co-stars Garth and Leslie Grossman, but Bynes says the possibility of working with them again is what excites her about a possible reboot.
"I think it's a great idea to reboot the show," Bynes said. "I miss them and would love to work with them again. I don't miss acting but I loved this show, so I'd be down to return to acting for this revival. It would be a great experience to continue the show."
Along with Bynes, Garth, and Grossman, What I Like About You also starred Wesley Jonathan, Michael McMillian, Nick Zano, and Allison Munn. Simon Rex was also a main character in the first season. Wil Calhoun and Dan Schneider created the series.
Jennie Garth Is Also Up for a Revival
Amanda Bynes noted that she hasn't spoken with her former co-stars about a reboot, but the good news for her is that Jennie Garth just recently said she'd be on board. Garth also said Grossman was up for it and that they were also hoping that Bynes would be feeling the same way, so it seems like the stars are starting to align properly.
“I’ve learned that you never know, you know what I mean? Never say never,” Garth said on the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast. "I would want to do the show with Amanda. That would be what I would want to do. I would just want to make sure she was in a place where she wanted to do it and what she wanted to focus on.”
Of her relationship with Bynes, Garth added, “We were like sisters. Our birthdays are actually on the same day in a real life. And so we’re thinking we’re connected in a weird way.”
Garth has been consistently appearing on television in the years since What I Like About You aired. In recent years, she appeared in the revival series BH90210 and had roles in the TV movies Left for Dead: The Ashley Reeves Story and A Kindhearted Christmas. Last year, she appeared as a contestant on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. As for Bynes, she recently released a rap song after having her conservatorship terminated earlier this year with great support from her fans.
