In the midst of the controversy over her upcoming role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, there was a different story to tell about Amber Heard today as she announced her first child to her fans, whom she has named Oonagh Paige after her late mother, Paige. The news was posted by the actress along with a picture of her holding the baby and a statement about the baby's birth. Oonagh was born using the help of a surrogate; due to Heard being told that she could never carry a baby herself. The child was born on the 8th of April this year.

Posting on her Instagram account, Amber Heard said, "I'm so excited to share this news with you. Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms," she wrote. "I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way. I hope we arrive at a point in which it's normalized to not want a ring in order to have a crib. A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone's business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this. My daughter was born on April 8, 2021. Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard. She's the beginning of the rest of my life."

Almost 150,000 people liked the post within the first two hours of her adding the picture, and her fans offered their congratulations. Messages also included a comment from fellow actress, Groundhog Day and Four Weddings & A Funeral star Andie MacDowell, who wrote, "Congratulations It's absolutely the best part of life."

The actress is currently in a relationship with Bianca Butti, a cinematographer whom she has been with since January last year. However, friends of the star have said that Heard wanted the baby to be hers alone and she is "proud" to be sole legal parent of Oonagh. A source who knows the star spoke to Pagesix.com, saying, "Oonagh is absolutely gorgeous, and Amber is besotted. She always knew that she wanted to be a mom, and this is her greatest wish come true. She's so grateful to the wonderful woman who helped bring Oonagh into her life. The most important thing for Amber is that she's open about Oonagh's birth." The source continued, "There are so many women who feel they can't talk about their fertility and are worried and embarrassed; Amber wants them to feel supported and realize that there are a multitude of ways to have a baby even if you have fertility issues."

The actress named her daughter after her mother, who passed away in May, 2020. At the time the star said that she was "heartbroken and devastated beyond belief." The tragic blow came just weeks prior to her appearance in the High Court, London, in which she gave evidence against former husband Johnny Depp in his libel case against The Sun newspaper, which he subsequently lost. The judge ruled that Depp had assaulted the Aquaman actress on numerous occasions. The pair will face each other again in a US court in relation to a 2018 article in the Washington Post in which Heard claimed to have suffered domestic abuse, although did not directly name Depp as the abuser.

The source claimed that, "For now, all that matters to Amber is Oonagh and raising a healthy and strong daughter."
