Shortly before the death of author Anne Rice last year, it was announced that her Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches novels were being adapted for the small screen by AMC, with Interview with the Vampire being the first series to go into production. Now we have our first look at the new series, with four images released by the network to give just a tiny bit of what is to come. Having already been made into a successful movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, many are excited to see what the series can do with the source material.AMC shared their post on Twitter, revealing one of the first looks at Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt and Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac, as their nocturnal characters enjoy a night on the town gambling and visiting an outdoor club. The images follow the very brief tease shown at this year’s Superbowl as part of AMC’s upcoming line-up of shows. Although they still do not give away too much about the series, it is a compelling reminder that the series is set to air later this year.

While there have been several attempts to bring Rice’s stories to screen, including the dismal Queen of the Damned, it was not until 2016 that Rice was able to reclaim the rights to her books and was able to move ahead with plans to adapt her world to television. Although many of the pitches and offers between then and now amounted to nothing, it was late last year that the author finally announced that she had found a home for a new universe based on her books at AMC. Unfortunately, Rice passed away in December before seeing her hard work come to fruition, but fans have been assured that Rice’s legacy will be at the forefront of the series producer’s mind.

Executive producer Mark Johnson discussed the project last year, explaining that Interview with the Vampire would be part of an interconnected world based on the novels of Rice. He wants to make sure the series remains true to her creation while bringing it to a modern audience is at the heart of the project. He told People:

"Developing this series carries great pressure and responsibility. What Anne Rice created and what her fans have been transfixed by forces us to take this book-to-television show transition with a great deal of responsibility. It is imperative that we do not disappoint her fans and yet we need to make sure that this story, these characters sing for a modern audience. We are hoping that this series compels the Anne Rice fan to rediscover her works. We are also hoping that those viewers who have never read an Anne Rice novel go running to the bookstore eager to understand what all the fuss is about."

Interview with the Vampire does not currently have a release date, but will premiere sometime this year.
