The first two official photos have been released for American Hustle, following the set photos we showed you from April. Although they aren't immediately recognizable with their 1970s costumes and hairstyles, these photos give us a better look at Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale, along with Amy Adams in this drama based on a true story from director David O. Russell. Take a look at these photos, then read on to see what David O. Russell had to say about this upcoming drama, which is currently in post-production.

The story centers on Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), a con artist who, along with his lover and accomplice Sydney (Amy Adams), are forced by an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to help with his ABSCAM conspiracy case in the 1970s, which ended with a U.S. Senator and five Congressmen convicted on corruption charges. Here's what David O. Russell had to say about that era, which mirrors our current economic hardships.

"That era was very much like our era now. The economy was not in a good place and people had to struggle to figure out how to reinvent themselves."

The filmmaker also spoke about shooting in Boston during the Boston Marathon bombings in April.

"We were shooting in an outlying area that day. Christian Bale's wife was the first one to get through to him (on set). It was very surreal. It was very upsetting."

He also spoke about how his cast, which also includes Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lawrence, and Louis C.K., play roles they have never tackled before.

"Everybody gets to do something we've never seen before. That's exciting to me."
