Dr. Loomis is making a return to Haddonfield for the new Halloween movie. Sort of. Dr. Samuel Loomis, played originally by the late Donald Pleasence, is a massive part of the mythology of the Halloween movies. Loomis cared for Michael Myers at a young age as his psychiatrist and was instrumental in trying to stop him throughout the franchise as the man who perhaps knew the masked killer best. Now, director David Gordon Green reveals that Loomis makes a cameo of sorts in the upcoming sequel.

Halloween 2018 will ignore the events of every single sequel, serving as a direct sequel to John Carpenter's 1978 classic. Dr. Loomis has a major presence in nearly every movie, so including him, in some way, makes sense. Director David Gordon Green says they got a voice actor to step in as a soundalike to accomplish this little cameo. Here's what Green had to say about it.

"We have a Donald Pleasence soundalike. Because obviously he's no longer with us, but having someone that could mimic his voice was a fun challenge. And we nailed it, I think. If I do say so myself. And then there's a couple other [nods to the past films]. There's a vocal cameo you may or may not notice till the end credits."

Donald Pleasance played the character in the movies prior to Halloween: H20. Pleasance passed away before the movie was made. His character was, however, explored in that movie, which ignores the events of Halloween 4, 5 and 6 in favor of establishing its own mythology. In order to accomplish this, voice actor Tom Kane was brought in to do some voiceover as Dr. Loomis. David Gordon Green didn't want to spoil the nature of this cameo or who it is that plays Loomis, but Kane could easily come back to do it again.

The only actors that are returning from the original movie are Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode and Nick Castle, the man who originally brought Michael Myers to life and was famously credited as The Shape. Given Castle's age, actor James Jude Courtney plays Michael Myers during much of the new movie. The rest of the cast includes Ginny Gardner, Judy Greer, Will Patton and Andi Matichak. This new mythology will see Laurie Strode prepping for Michael Myers' return, who is no longer her brother. She's going to be attempting to kill him before he can kill her.

John Carpenter is on board as an executive producer and to do the score. Blumhouse is set to release Halloween on October 19. It's been a long time since we've seen Michael Myers on screen and a really long time since we've seen the famed slasher in a great movie. Could this finally break the streak? So far, everything looks and sounds good. Hopefully, the trailer that was shown recently at San Diego Comic-Con makes its way online soon so we can all have a better look.
