We finally have a first full-length trailer for Marvel's Avengers. This game has been in development for some time, dating back in its earliest days when Marvel Entertainment signed a deal with studio Square Enix back in 2011 to develop video games based on the company's vast library of popular characters. Now, we finally have a glimpse at what that partnership is going to bring us, and it looks like an action-packed, hero-filled blast. The game was revealed during Square Enix's E3 presentation. They had been teasing the reveal leading up to the event and it was one of the most highly-anticipated projects being unveiled this year. And they didn't disappoint.

The trailer kicks off with a celebration of Avengers Day in San Francisco, with Iron Man, Black Widow, Bruce Banner, Thor, and Captain American all there to celebrate. We then get to see the heroes in action as the Golden Gate bridge is attacked. It's a mix of transition, story footage and actual gameplay footage. All of it looks very much like a whole lot of fun for fans. Things take an ugly turn and it gets especially emotional. We then get a few quick cuts of further gameplay before the title card comes up. And that's about it.

There are a few things worth mentioning here. For one, it's clear this is diverting from the overall story arc of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So this doesn't, as far as we know, take place within that continuity in any way. Also, as many online have pointed out, the characters don't resemble the actors who play them in the movies, nor have those actors signed on to voice the characters. Did Square Enix and Marvel not get the likeness rights for the game for Robert Downey Jr. and the gang? That hasn't been made clear, but don't expect to see spitting images of the MCU heroes in the game.

Marvel's Avengers begins at an Avengers Day celebration, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a new, hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco. This includes the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The event takes a deadly turn when a terrible incident results in tremendous devastation. The Avengers, after being blamed for the tragic events, disband. Five years later, after all Superheroes have been outlawed, the world is once again in peril and the only hope is Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

The game will offer both single-player and co-op gameplay, with players able to team up with friends online. The game was Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Eidos-Montreal, Nixxes Software, and Crystal Northwest. The best part? All future content released for the game will be free and there will be no loot boxes. Marvel's Avengers is set to arrive for the PlayStation4, Xbox One and PC on May 15, 2020. Pre-orders are available now. Be sure to check out the new trailer from the Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel.
