It seems that Tom Holland and Zendaya were given some early advice when appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home by producer Any Pascal, who warned the pair about dating while acting together. While it is clear the pair didn’t listen, it isn’t the first time Pascal has given the lecture. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Pascal revealed that she also had a similar conversation with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone while producing The Amazing Spider-Man films, but she is more than aware that none of the stars seem to pay any attention to her.

Pascal was not around when Tobey Maguire became the first big-screen Spider-Man and therefore was not available to give any advice on personal relationships when Maguire and co-star Kirsten Dunst began seeing each other outside of work during the filming of the original Spider-Man movie. The pair had already parted ways by the time the sequel was released, but continued to appear together in Spider-Man 3. When it came to Andrew Garfield taking over the role, Pascal’s warning about dating co-star Emma Stone fell on deaf ears and the pair had a relationship that lasted four years throughout the filming of both of their movies. Now, the latest Spider-Man has also been caught in a web with his co-star, and as Pascal pointed out, she did try to warn them off having a relationship.

"I took Tom and Zendaya aside, separately, when we first cast them and gave them a lecture. Don’t go there — just don’t. Try not to. I gave the same advice to Andrew and Emma. It can just complicate things, you know? And they all ignored me."

Hollywood romances are not an uncommon thing, with many couples having met “at work” and while many don’t last, others such as Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. and Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have gone on to be the most established couples in the industry. How long Tom Holland and Zendaya’s now-official romantic connection will last is something that only time will tell, but it seems to have certainly added to their on-screen chemistry in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

This weekend saw Tom Holland’s latest Spider-Man outing join Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War as having one of the biggest opening box offices of all time. For Marvel Studios and Sony, who at one time seemed to have put an end to their Spider-Man deal just after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, the reception for this film will have certainly put to bed any ideas of a total separation of Marvel universes in future. Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently assured fans that a new Spider-Man MCU movie is coming and what was seen two years ago is not something that will happen again.

“Amy and I and Disney and Sony are talking about — yes, we’re actively beginning to develop where the story heads next, which I only say outright because I don’t want fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after Far From Home. That will not be occurring this time,” Feige said.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters now.
