Amy Ryan has signed on to star in director Steven Spielberg's Untitled Cold War Thriller, with Alan Alda, Billy Magnussen and Eve Hewson in talks to join the cast.

Tom Hanks is attached to star as American lawyer James Donovan, who was tasked by the U.S. government to negotiate the release of a U.S. pilot who was captured behind enemy lines. Amy Ryan will play Donovan's wife, but no details were given for Alan Alda, Billy Magnussen and Eve Hewson's characters. Mark Rylance is also set to star in this project based on a true story.

Steven Spielberg is directing from a script by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, who rewrite the original draft by Matt Charman. The director will also produce alongside Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger, with Adam Somner and Daniel Lupi serving as executive producers.

Shooting is scheduled to begin this September, on location in New York and Berlin. 20th Century Fox is co-financing the project with DreamWorks, while handling international distribution. Disney will distribute the project domestically.

Amy Ryan most recently starred in Devil's Knot, and she will next be seen in Birdman, Monster Trucks and Goosebumps.
