Ana de Armas opened up her Saturday Night Live debut by announcing she will soon officially gain her U.S. citizenship. This news was in addition to joking about how her greatest asset in learning the English language was the hit sitcom Friends. Having become one of the most sought-after actresses of the moment, de Armas’ SNL appearance was just another chance to give her fans what they want.

As well as appearing in the usual sketches during the show, de Armas’ opening monologue revealed that she would officially become an American citizen in the next few weeks. While mentioning the year she has had, the actress said:

“Not only I was nominated for an Oscar, but in three weeks I'm going to officially become an American citizen. I am proud to become a citizen because when I moved here everyone was so welcoming."

Talking about how she managed to learn the English language, de Armas gave most of the credit to the sitcom Friends, which she joked had made Chandler Bing her unlikely English tutor. She said:

“I was born in Cuba, came to America when I was 26, and I learned English the way everyone who comes to this country does, by watching "Friends." Who would have thought the best English tutor would have been Chandler Bing. Look at me now, could I be any better at English?”

Having spent time with James Bond and soon to be seen sharing screen time with John Wick, Ana de Armas is once again reuniting with Chris Evans for Apple TV+ romantic action-adventure Ghosted. Said to be in the vein of Romancing the Stone, the film arrives on the streaming platform on Apr. 21.

According to the synopsis, "salt-of-the-earth Cole (Chris Evans) falls head over heels for enigmatic Sadie (Ana de Armas) — but then makes the shocking discovery that she’s a secret agent. Before they can decide on a second date, Cole and Sadie are swept away on an international adventure to save the world."

The movie is the latest in a series of collaborations between the pair, having previously starred together in Knives Out and The Gray Man. However, the new film is unlike any other characters they have previously played. Evans said:

"Ghosted is a romance/adventure in the vein of Romancing the Stone. I love working with Ana. She's an incredibly versatile actress and really fun on set. Neither of us have played characters like this and audiences are in for a really fun ride."

Of course, it could have been a completely different scenario if original star Scarlett Johansson had been able to complete filming, but due to a scheduling conflict, she was forced to drop out of the role, leaving it open for de Armas to step in as a replacement. While the actress has certainly made a name for herself in more action-orientated roles, she has previously said that she would like to concentrate on more dramatic roles in the future, meaning that fans of her tough side should make the most of this year’s releases.
