Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) is a character that has not been part of the Star Wars universe for very long. Yet, the one movie he was featured in, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, made more of an impact with fans than all three movies that made up the recent sequel trilogy. While a somewhat complicated character, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story did an amazing job of telling fans everything they needed to know about his character before his tragic death at the movie's end.

Even with the knowledge of his death, however, Disney and Lucasfilm still saw fit to announce a Disney+ series titled Andor, set to debut at some point in this year. While no concrete release date or plot details other than the fact that it takes place five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story have been given, that does not mean that nothing is known about the series.

Cassian Andor occupies a unique position in the Star Wars universe because his death was shown in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so fans definitively know how his story ends. What they do not know, however, is how it began. When Rogue One: A Star Wars Story begins, Cassian Andor was already a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic and clearly had been for some time as he was very direct, spoke only as much as he needed to, and was more than a little jaded about some of the darker aspects of his job. He showed no reaction at all to shooting a fellow rebel in the back so that he would not be taken and interrogated by stormtroopers. What this shows more than anything is that Cassian Andor is not necessarily the sort of rebel that Star Wars fans have been used to seeing. It is these darker aspects of his character that, ironically, will get a chance to shine in his own solo series.

In order to do his character justice, however, there are some things that Andor is going to have to do and show that Star Wars fans will expect.

What Other Characters Could Appear?

Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the universe of Star Wars is one where the story is largely defined by the characters that are in it. Because of this, as much as Star Wars fans demand a good story, they also tend to demand some familiar faces. While the majority of the cast for Andor is known, only two characters other than Cassian Andor himself have been confirmed to appear as Genevieve O'Reilly is set to play Mon Mothma, one of the leaders of the Rebel Alliance, and Forest Whitaker will reprise his role as Saw Gerrera, the leader of an extremist militant insurgent group against the Galactic Empire.

Other than those two, one character that absolutely must appear in the series is Cassian Andor's droid companion K-2SO (played by Alan Tudyk), a reprogrammed Imperial enforcer droid who served as the sort of Costello to Andor's Abbott. One might even dare say that the interactions between Cassian Andor and K-2SO carried most of the movie, as K-2SO always seemed to always know exactly what type of quip to say and when to say it, much to the annoyance of the other characters.

Other than K-2SO, it is worth noting that at the time that Andor takes place while the events of Star Wars: Rebels were going on in the background. While the crew of the Ghost were more than likely part of a different rebel cell than Cassian Andor, the possibility does exist for them to have some interactions with each other, as the character Hera was known to keep in touch with the other rebel cells as often as possible. The Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren is confirmed in the upcoming Ahsoka series and will be played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo. There is a very real possibility that fans could see Sabine in Andor before she appears in Ahsoka. On the Imperial side of things, however, it could be anybody's guess as to who could appear even despite fan demand, as some of the big named Imperials like Grand Moff Tarkin and Grand Admiral Thrawn are known to be doing other, seemingly more important things while all of these events are taking place.

While the events of Andor may be confirmed to take place five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, that does not mean it cannot build up to that movie. Even if the expectation from Disney is that Andor will last for several seasons, that does not mean that the events that lead up to his death cannot hang over him. Not only that, but thanks to Star Wars: Rebels, fans have a pretty good idea of what many of the major events leading up to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope were and what happened in them.

While it is very likely that Cassian Andor himself was far away from many of the large-scale battles, it would be interesting to know what he was doing during those times and if he contributed to them in any meaningful way. As a spy, his job would revolve more around information gathering than actual fighting, so perhaps the information he gathers could lead to a victory for the Rebel Alliance elsewhere. In any case, Cassian Andor will not be able to outrun his own death. Even Jedi cannot do that.
