Lance Reddick has joined the cast of Angel Has Fallen. Gerard Butler managed to find himself a pretty successful franchise when Olympus Has Fallen was released in 2013. Five years later, he's coming back as Mike Banning for a third installment of the trilogy, which is currently filming. Now, it looks like he's going to have some company as Reddick, who has starred in hit shows like The Wire and Fringe, has boarded the movie in what sounds like a key role.

In Angel Has Fallen, which arrives in theaters sometime this year, Lance Reddick will play Gentry, who serves as the interim director of the Secret Service. Reddick is no stranger to action movies, as he's starred alongside Keanu Reeves in both John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2. Though, he mostly stood behind the desk of The Continental hotel and didn't get in on the action too much himself. Maybe he'll actually get the chance to throw some punches and fire off a few rounds in Angel Has Fallen.

No official plot synopsis has been revealed for Angel Has Fallen yet, but much of the movie will take place aboard Air Force One. This movie will also see Gerard Butler's Mike Banning having to defend himself on the run, as he is framed for an assassination attempt on the president. Speaking about the third installment of the franchise last year Butler boldly compared the movie to Logan and gave some sense of what to expect from the upcoming threequel. Here's what he had to say in an interview with Den of Geek.

''This is as similar as maybe Logan was to 'Wolverine', it's definitely a Mike Banning who's almost, as I am now, Gerry Butler for his action career, a Mike Banning who is paying the price of all these years, all the 'Olympus Has Fallen's and 'London Has Fallen's.' He's paying the price for that physically now and he's struggling a bit in the job. It's no longer the kind of superhero Mike Banning, but it's a guy who's on a more challenging journey and then on top of that everything turns against him when he gets set up for this assassination attempt on the President. And some of those facts that he's already struggling with are used against him and he ends up going on the run and is trying to elude the bad guys, and the good guys, and find out who the hell is behind all of this.''

In addition to the newly cast Lance Reddick, Angel Has Fallen also stars Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith and Piper Perabo. Ric Roman Waugh, who spent most of his career as a stuntman and stunt coordinator, has boarded the franchise to direct the upcoming sequel. Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen made a combined $375 million at the worldwide box office and both were made with relatively small production budgets.
