We've got a brand new, international trailer for Angel Has Fallen. This is set to be the finale, or so we assume, for the series of action flicks centered on Gerard Butler's Mike Banning. This entry looks to flip the familiar script that was on display in the last two movies. This time around, Banning will be on the run attempting to clear his name, instead of being the lone hero in a bad situation. Beyond that, it looks very much like what one might expect from a sequel to Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen.
This trailer focuses more on the events leading up to this third installment than the previous version did. This contains quite a few of the same beats previously revealed, with the massive drone attack that sets off the events that will unfold and make Mike Banning an enemy of the state. There are a few added beats in here, and, as one would expect, it's incredibly heavy on the action. Bigger doesn't always mean better but for anyone who is going to turn up to see a movie such as this, we're guessing the cranked up action comes as a welcome addition. On the whole, there is a lot going on here.
Angel Has Fallen once again centers on Mike Banning (Gerard Butler). This time, there is an assassination attempt on U.S. President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman). In the aftermath, his trusted confidant, Secret Service Agent Mike Banning becomes the prime suspect and is taken into police custody. Mike manages to escape custody and turns himself into a highly wanted man on the run. He must evade his own agency and stay one step ahead of the FBI in order to uncover the true threat to the President. Desperate and low on options, he turns to unlikely allies to help clear his name and, more importantly, keep his family, and the country, safe.
The cast also includes Jada Pinkett Smith, Lance Reddick, Tim Blake Nelson, Piper Perabo, Nick Nolte and Danny Huston. Ric Roman Waugh takes over the directing duties on this entry, working from a script he co-wrote with Robert Mark Kamen and Matt Cook. There has been a different director in place for each subsequent entry, with Antoine Fuqua at the helm for Olympus Has Fallen. Babak Najafi took over for London Has Fallen. Waugh previously directed 2013's Snitch and 2017's Shot Caller.
Both previous movies proved to be solid earners at the box office, bringing in a combined $376 million worldwide. Hollywood has trouble making money on mid-budget action movies these days, but this series has proved to be the rare exception. Can they capture that same magic a third time? We'll know soon enough. Angel Has Fallen is set to hit theaters on August 23. Be sure to check out the new international trailer from the LionsgateFilmsUK YouTube channel.
