Angelina Jolie is set to get back into the director's chair for her next project and a familiar face from Eternals will be alongside her for the ride. Per Variety, it's been announced that Jolie will write and direct Without Blood, the latest film that comes from a three-year deal to develop content for Fremantle. Filming has already started in Italy with Salma Hayek, with whom Jolie co-starred in Eternals, with Demián Bichir (A Better Life) also starring.

Without Blood is said to explore “universal truths about war, trauma, memory, and healing.” It is based on the novel of the same name by Italian author Alessandro Baricco which is set in the aftermath of an unspecified war. Fremantle is producing the feature alongside Jolie's Jolie Production and Lorenzo Mieli's The Apartment Pictures. It is the first movie under Jolie's deal with Fremantle, though it's her fifth film overall as a director.

“I’m honored to be here in Italy to bring this very special material to film, and to have been entrusted by Alessandro Baricco with the adaptation of his book — with its unique poetry and emotion and way of looking at war, and the questions it poses about what we search for after trauma or loss or injustice," Jolie said in a statement.

Global CEO of Fremantle Jennifer Mullin added, “Without Blood is the first production under our partnership with Angelina and we are excited to work with her and the incredible international team she has assembled. This project underlines Fremantle’s ongoing commitment to producing high-quality feature films and original dramas working with the very best talent from across the globe.”

It wasn't so long ago when filmgoers were able to see Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek on the big screen together. The two were part of the ensemble cast of the Marvel movie Eternals. Jolie had said that she had denied the chance to play a comic book role in the past but she was excited to become a part of Eternals because of the diverse characters brought to the table by its cast.

“It makes us stronger, diversity makes you stronger,” Jolie said, via Yahoo Entertainment. “So I love our Eternals family. We are strong because of the diversity.

Of when she saw a Latino family dressed up as Ajak, Hayek added, "What it took for me not to cry. I was like, ‘Think of the fake eyelashes and the mascara. Hold it together, you have a lot of interviews to do.'”

Aside from Eternals, Jolie also seen in last year's Those Who Wish Me Dead and last directed 2017's First They Killed My Father. Hayek, who was awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year, also appeared in recent films like Bliss, Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, and House of Gucci. She will return as the voice of Kitty Softpaws in the animated sequel Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Without Blood does not have an official release date at this time.
