Anne Rice's Christ the Lord, based on the acclaimed novel Christ the Lord Out of Egypt, has gotten an official release date from Focus Features. The biblical drama will unfold in theaters on March 23, 2016. Just in time for Easter weekend.

Christ the Lord is a fictional account of young Jesus' life, before he discovers his true identity and the mysteries that surround his birth. This anticipated adaptation was green lit in Cannes this past May. Production officially begins September 15.

No cast is in place just yet. Cyrus Nowrasteh will direct from a screenplay he wrote with his wife Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh. The Passion of the Christ's Enzo Sisti will produce.

Christ the Lord will be a wide release, and will arrive in theaters two days before the rebirth of Detroit's own savoir, Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop 4 and the Warner Bros. weather thriller Geostorm.
