Relativity announced today that it has acquired the worldwide rights to finance, produce and distribute Anomaly, based on the interactive comic book created and written by Skip Brittenham and Brian Haberlin (Witchblade). Ed Ricourt (Now You See Me) has signed on to pen the script. Take a look at the trailer for this interactive book.

Robbie Brenner, President of Production for Relativity, had this to say.

"The comic book, Anomaly, is a groundbreaking concept that bridges the gap between 2-D and 3-D using multi-media components. Relativity is thrilled to develop and produce Skip and Brian's first-of-its-kind idea for film."

Brian Haberlin added the following statement.

"We designed Anomaly to be as much of a cinematic experience as possible, using cutting-edge technology to create a dimension of interactivity that's never been done before, and the response from comics fans has been fantastic. Skip and I are excited to partner with Relativity, Joe Roth and Ed Ricourt to extend that vision to the big screen."

An epic adventure set in Earth's distant future, Anomaly centers on Jon, a disgraced Conglomerate Enforcer, who is given a last precious chance for redemption by leading a rag tag group of explorers on a first contact mission to a newly discovered planet. The mission turns out to be a deadly trap. Marooned and with all their technology destroyed, the crew must rely solely on their wits to navigate the treacherous planet and earn the trust of the hostile, incredibly diverse, warring alien races if they want to have any chance to survive and get back to Earth.

Released by Anomaly Productions in December 2012, the 370-page hardcover comic book of the same name is leading the way for the next generation of books as interactive, multi-platform experiences. A free app comes along with the book, equipped with technology that allows readers to view interactive 3-D models that provide additional details, images and an entire backstory that cannot be accessed by reading alone.

Joe Roth (Snow White and the Huntsman, Oz: The Great and Powerful, Alice in Wonderland) will produce the film, with Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, Relativity President Tucker Tooley and Skip Brittenham executive producing.
