Ant-Man director Peyton Reed was so determined to turn Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania into an Avengers-level epic that he kicked down Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s door. Metaphorically, of course. Sick of hearing how the Ant-Man and the Wasp outings had become ‘palate cleansers’ following major Avengers movies (a phrase he really seems to loathe), Reed insisted that the threequel be just as significant as any of the Avengers’ adventures.

"People felt like, Oh, these are fun little palate cleansers after a gigantic Avengers movie. For this third one, I said, 'I don't want to be the palate cleanser anymore. I want to be the big Avengers movie.'"

Asked by EW whether he had gone so far as to kick in Kevin Feige’s office door in order to demand that Ant-Man was no longer the fluff piece after the big event, Reed replied...

"I did. I metaphorically kicked in Kevin Feige's door."

Clearly such an approach worked, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania all set to introduce the next Avengers-level threat to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Jonathan Majors’ time-traveling, universe-hopping villain, Kang the Conqueror. Not only that, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will also introduce a character who is expected to play a major part on the heroes’ side, Scott Lang’s daughter, Cassie. Now older and played by Freaky star Kathryn Newton, Cassie Lang will don her own supersuit during the events of Quantumania. Check out a new image of Scott and Cassie below.

"One of the single most intriguing things that I was excited to do in this movie was progress the Scott-Cassie relationship," Peyton says of bringing Cassie Lang into the fray. "It's been central to all the Ant-Man movies, the big difference here being that, as a result of Endgame, Cassie is now a young woman. She has become a scientific mind in her own right. She's been going through Hank Pym's old journals and notebooks, and has really latched on to this idea of quantum science and quantum technology."

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Will Delve Ever Deeper into the Mysteries of the Quantum Realm

If that were not already enough for Peyton Reed to deal with, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will also delve ever deeper into the mysteries of the Quantum Realm. "In the first one, we introduced the idea of the Quantum Realm, we kind of dipped our toe into it, and then even more so in the second one," Reed teased. "But we obviously left a lot of unanswered questions. We wanted to go in a different direction, and create an epic movie where the bulk of it takes place in the Quantum Realm. For me, it was really exciting, because the other two films take place in San Francisco, and this one, we were creating this incredibly complex subatomic world, and all the environments and ecosystems and creatures and beings that inhabit that world."

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne aka Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, and Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, and finds our heroes heading off on an adventure into the Quantum Realm. An adventure that pushes their limits and pits them against Joanthan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to be released on February 17, 2023.
