ZQ Entertainment and Raimi Productions' upcoming action movie Locked has secured two big names for its lead stars. Deadline reports that Hollywood veteran Anthony Hopkins has signed on to co-star with Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell in the film. David Yarovesky is directing using a screenplay penned by Michael Arlen Ross (Oracle). The film is a remake of the Argentinian movie 4X4 from writer Mariano Cohn and director Gaston Duprat.
Sam Raimi is producing alongside Zainab Azizi for Raimi Productions. Ara Keshishian and Petr Jakl are also producing via ZQ Entertainment, while Cohn and Duprat are serving as executive producers with Martin J. Barab. Yarovesky previously collaborated with Raimi on Nightbooks, leading to the director getting the job for Locked.
"Dave Yarovesky so elevated the material on Nightbooks, and he was our first choice for this,” Raimi says. “The script was so good and he’s such a good communicator that we were able to interest Anthony Hopkins, who for my generation is just about the greatest actor ever. Glen’s character has got a soul to him that’s slowly revealed as the picture goes on. It seems as though he’s just a thief, someone that doesn’t care for others, but as the film unfolds, you realize he has a wife and a child that he loves and he’s wronged, and this whole experience gives him a chance to reflect back on how he’s treated them, and how he’s lived his life relative to them.”
Raimi continues, “Because his time is at hand. He’s told by Sir Anthony Hopkins’ character that this will be it for him, and so the self-reflection is an element through the course of this adventure. But this is not an emotional piece as much as it is an action tension piece, a nonstop thrill ride with characters at the center you learn to care about. That will be a satisfying experience for the audience.”
Locked Stars Two Acclaimed Actors
Sam Raimi also says that the film will make great use of its lead stars. Locked is described as an "Intense, character-driven thriller about a thief who breaks into a luxury SUV, only to realize that he's stumbled into a complex and deadly trap set by a mysterious figure." Powell plays the thief in the film with Hopkins presumably playing this "mysterious" man.
Powell is coming off hot of his co-starring role with Tom Cruise in the massively successful sequel Top Gun: Maverick. His other recent roles include Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood and Devotion and he's set to star in the upcoming film Hitman. Of course, Hopkins is known for a wide variety of roles he's portrayed over the course of several decades, and he set the record for the oldest Best Actor Oscar winner in 2021 when he won the award for The Father. He appeared in the recent films Armageddon Time and The Son and will be featured in Zack Snyder's upcoming sci-fi action movie Rebel Moon.
