The Untouchables: Mother's Day: According to Variety, Paramount and producer Art Linson are mobilizing a spinoff to The Untouchables, the 1987 feature directed by Brian De Palma and starring Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness and Robert De Niro as Al Capone.

King Arthur helmer Antoine Fuqua is circling.

The pic, now in its preliminary stages, is being called The Untouchables: Mother's Day, and will focus on the rise of Chicago mob kingpin Capone, in the years before Ness and his lawmen.

"The Untouchables" was also a 1959-63 TV series starring Robert Stack as Ness. Both the series and the De Palma feature were based on the novel of the same name by Oscar Fraley.
