On Tuesday April 18th, 2006 the launch of HD-DVD in the US going to begin. It may not be greeted with all the bells and whistles manufacturers might have hoped but at least it's a start.

According to Video Business, five titles will be available from Warner Bros. and Universal Studios and Toshiba players are expected a few days later.

The article went on to say "small initial shipments, stores are likely to have four or five players in stock and about 10 units of HD DVD discs at launch, according to distribution and retail sources." Furthermore, "studios are expected to ship between 7,000 and 10,000 copies of each of the five initial titles set for the April 18 release, according to distributors. Toshiba is expected to ship between 10,000 and 15,000 players, several thousand of which are for retail displays."

It is expected that HD-DVD titles will be available at places like Wal-Mart and Best Buy and even smaller retail outlets.
