The world is in love with Aquaman. Entering its third official week in U.S. theaters, the movie has finally toppled Batman V Superman at the global box office to become the highest grossing DCEU movie ever. It has also bypassed a number of other Marvel and Sony superhero movies on its way to complete domination.

Just a few years ago, it would have been hard to image that Aquaman would be the king of DC superheroes, with such heavy hitters as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman on the scene. But Arthur Curry is now king of the DC family, and he still has a good month left to earn big bucks at the box office.

Aquaman is the second highest rated movie in the DCEU with a 64% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, coming in behind Wonder Woman with a 93% approval rating. The aquatic adventure has proven to be a huge hit overseas, with a current worldwide gross of $887,620,880 as of this writing. Batman V Superman currently sits at $873,634,919. Though, it should be noted that Aquaman has a ways to go before it will be able to beat Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at the domestic box office. It is speculated that Aquaman will reach that covered $1 billion milestone before all is said and done.

Over the past two weeks, Aquaman has soared by a number of big MCU movies. Now, in its third weekend, it has officially beaten last year's surprise smash Venom, clobbering Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in the process. There is no real competition for Aquaman until Glass, another long awaited superhero sequel, and The Kid Who Would Be King hit theaters on January 18.

Aquaman is the first-ever standalone movie for the DC Comics character, with Jason Momoa reprising his role from Batman V Superman and Justice League. Speaking domestically, Aquaman should have no problem bypassing Justice League in the U.S. after the weekend. China has really taken to the ocean dwelling do-gooder, with the King of Atlantas getting an extended release in that country. No one, least of all Warner Bros. and DC Films, imagined that the movie would do so good, this quickly, especially when it comes to squashing some of the biggest titles in the MCU.

With the movie such a smash hit, it's expected that Aquaman 2 will be officially announced any day now. Director James Wan and Jason Momoa have both stated that they have a lot of ideas for keeping this franchise fresh and swimming forward in the future. It's unclear if any other DC superheroes will join him during the next round. It looks like Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are down for the count when it comes to reprising their roles as Batman and Superman, respectively. But Momoa hopes he can bring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Ezra Miller as The Flash back for the second installment.

It's expected that Aquaman could be a box office main stay throughout February and heading into the spring. We'll have to wait and see if Captain Marvel is any match for Arthur Curry when that Marvel release hits theirs in March. This news comes from Box Office Mojo.
