Summit Entertainment has acquired the rights to Area 52, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura attached to produce.

The project is based on a four-issue comic book series created by Brian Haberlin, which centers on a top-secret Antarcitca warehouse the U.S. government uses to store hideous creatures and mystical weapons. When an aggressive new alien is accidentally hatched, the group of misfits hired to watch over the warehouse must band together to keep these creatures from escaping.

We reported way back in October 2007 that Automaton Transfusion filmmaker Steven C. Miller was attached to direct. It seems Summit is currently seeking a new director and writers for this comic book adaptation.

Mark Vahradian will also produce Area 52, with J.C. Spink attached as executive producer. No production schedule was given for Area 52.
