Ben Affleck is the man playing Batman for Warner Bros. for the foreseeable future, but at one point, it was The Social Network and The Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer who was supposed to play The Dark Knight. In 2007, nearly a decade ago, Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller was inches away from going into production on a Justice League movie that would have starred Armie Hammer as Batman. Now, some recent Twitter activity has suggested he may be joining the current DC Extended Universe and he decided to mess with us, while at the same time sort of fueling the fire.

The actor took to Twitter to expertly fan the flames. Recently, he was followed on Twitter by Geoff Johns, who oversees all of the DC Comics movies at Warner Bros. and Joe Manganiello, who is playing Deathstroke in Ben Affleck's The Batman. Similar Twitter activity has occurred with other actors (like Joe Manganiello in the past before casting was announced. As for who he may play? A role in The Batman would make sense, but the internet has pretty much taken over and suggested that he should play the Hal Jordan version of Green Lantern. Now he's having fun with us about it.

Even if he is being courted by Warner Bros. to take on the part, he won't be able to say anything about it. So instead, he did the only thing he could do and teased everyone on his Twitter feed while at the same time not ruling out the possibility that he is actually going to join the DCEU, possibly as Green Lantern. Over the course of six different tweets, here is what he had to say.

"Very large announcement coming soon.....I.......will........Be.......Playing.....................My old guitar tonight. Found it in a closet and realized how long it's been."

Armie Hammer clearly has a sense of humor about this whole thing no matter what the case. Either he is excited about playing a DC Comics character for Warner Bros. and is having fun with it, or he is fine with the fact that it isn't happening and is just doing his best to have some fun with fans who are supporting the decision. All of that said, there are quite a few reasons to think Armie Hammer could actually be the next guy to play Green Lantern, or some other super powered character, for Warner Bros.

For one, he has a good relationship with the studio, having starred in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. alongside Henry Cavill, who just so happens to be playing Superman in the DCEU. Also, he has flirted with a big DC role before which means that Warner Bros. liked him a lot. Enough to play Batman, the biggest comic book character they have control of. Also, superficially speaking, he has the build and the look to play a superhero, like Green Lantern, so there is a lot to support this rumor. For now, it looks like we are going to have to deal with some teasing from Armie Hammer. If he does play Green Lantern, he will very likely first appear in Justice League, which comes out on November 17, 2017.
