Arnold Schwarzenegger is back and better than ever in his first-ever, scripted television role for Netflix’s FUBAR. The comedic, spy-adventure was created by Prison Break producer-writer Nick Santora and is loosely inspired by the 1994 hit feature, True Lies, which also starred Schwarzenegger. Ahead of the May 25th premiere, Netflix has released the official trailer for FUBAR which already shows promise of a thrilling ride between a father-daughter spy duo whose professional and familial worlds collide.

The eight-episode series follows Luke, portrayed by Schwarzenegger, who is a father ready to leave behind his secret life as a CIA operative and focus on repairing his family life with his older daughter, Emma (Monica Barbaro), and ex-wife. However, his retirement is soon placed on hold as the skilled operative is needed to extract a top CIA agent and secure the mission’s urgent, classified information. Though the operation seems simple enough — to his surprise — the agent that he’s been sent to retrieve is his daughter.

The shocking revelation is not one-sided, as they both learn that they’ve each secretly been working as CIA operatives for years. Their father-daughter dynamic throughout the years comes into question because they realize their entire relationship has been a lie and that they truly don’t know one another at all. Forced to team up as partners to finish out the mission, FUBAR will explore universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, action, and humor.

Nick Santora has had an extensive career in television, spanning over 20 years. The writer-producer worked on several hit series in addition to Prison Break including The Sopranos, Law & Order, and Lie to Me. Throughout his long television history, Santora has also served as showrunner for the CBS action-drama series, Scorpion, making him the perfect person to be at the helm of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s television entry. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Santora spoke about how it was a dream to work with the prolific actor on the upcoming project.

“FUBAR is, by far, the most surreal project of my career. I grew up watching Arnold Schwarzenegger films — I’d hit my dad up for a few bucks so I could race to the movies and see the biggest star in the world on the big screen — so creating the first scripted television project for Arnold is unbelievably exciting for me. The thing I always marveled at was how Schwarzenegger could be funny while still kicking ass … that’s why I wanted FUBAR to be a hysterical, CIA-spy comedy mixed with heart-stopping action! And it is all that – and more. I’d love to elaborate with more details, but, sorry, it’s classified.”

Audiences can catch Schwarzenegger on the small screen when FUBAR premieres exclusively on Netflix May 25.
