Shrek producer Aron Warner has optioned the rights to Paul Melko's sci-fi fantasy novel The Walls of the Universe for his production company Strange Weather. According to Variety, Shrek 2 director Andrew Adamson will co-produce the project.

The story follows an Ohio teenager named Jack Rayburn who discovers he has a parallel universe doppelganger named John Prime who is intent on switching places with him. In doing so, Prime strands Rayburn in a strange, alternate plain of existence.

About the project, Aron Warner stated, "We think it has a ton of potential to explore the idea of parallel universes in a personal way, like Back to The Future did with time travel."
