The CW's hit series Arrow is bringing in yet another DC Comics villain, with actor Doug Jones (Hellboy) signing on to play Deathbolt in the 19th episode of Season 3, entitled "Broken Arrow". No details were given about how Deathbolt first comes to Starling City.

Jake Simmons, a.k.a. Deathbolt, was created in 1983 by Roy Thomas and Jerry Ordway. first appearing in All-Star Squadron #21. This powerful villain has the ability to manipulate electricity, and was also given the nickname "The Human Battery" in the comics. His addition to Arrow is rather important, since he will be the first "metahuman" to appear in Starling City, aside from The Flash crossover episode. It isn't known if Simmons got his powers during the S.T.A.R. Labs explosion in Central City that gave Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and several others their powers on The Flash, or if another cause for his powers will be given.

After Deathbolt's emergence, Arrow will start to delve into more metahuman villains, much like the Mikaraku-enhanced enemies showcased in Season 2. It remains to be seen if Doug Jones' Deathbolt will return in Season 4, or if he will also cross over to The Flash. Doug Jones is best known for playing Abe Sapien in Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. He also has roles in Falling Skies and The Strain.
