Fans of NBC's short-lived series Constantine were given a pleasant surprise this August, when it was confirmed that Matt Ryan will reprise his role as John Constantine on The CW's Arrow. The report from August revealed that the actor will guest star in the fifth episode this season, Haunted, which airs one week from tonight, Wednesday, November 4 at 8 PM ET on The CW. Today, TV Line has debuted new photos from this episode, which give us a new look at John Constantine, while The CW has released a new trailer as well. When asked about how this new character fits into the story, series star Stephen Amell had this to say.

"We weave in the Constantine character very nicely. Keeping within the framework of our show, we lend ourselves to the things that make Constantine fun as a character."

In the DC Comics, John Constantine is an expert in, among other things, the Lazarus Pit, which can bring people back from the dead. It was long believed that Constantine's presence on Arrow could be used to bring Sara Lance, the first Black Canary (Caity Lotz) back from the dead, using the Lazarus Pit. The character was killed off in the Arrow Season 3 premiere, but she was then announced as one of the main cast members in The CW midseason spinoff DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and it was confirmed that she will come back as the White Canary.

However, Sara was resurrected during last week's episode, Restoration, although she has been reduced to a feral animal. Oliver's sister Thea Queen (Willa Holland), who was resurrected by the Lazarus Pit last season, has been consumed by bloodlust and hospitalized, as you can see in the photos below. Since John Constantine is a renowned exorcist, demonologist and master of the dark arts, it's possible he may be brought in to remove any traces of evil from both Sara and Thea, but we'll have to wait until next week to find out for sure.

After defeating his most formidable foe to date and riding off into the sunset with longtime flame Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen left Starling City with the hopes of beginning a new life. But will Oliver ever truly be able to leave behind his past as the Arrow, and, if so, what becomes of the team he has worked so hard to assemble? Will Diggle, Thea, and Laurel be left to continue Oliver's crusade without him? And with Malcolm Merlyn having ascended to the top of the League of Assassins as the new Ra's al Ghul, is anyone really safe?

Aside from Matt Ryan's John Constantine, other new additions this season include Neal McDonough as the main villain Damien Darhk, Alexander Calvert as Anarky, Echo Kellum as superhero Mister Terrific, Jimmy Akingbola as the villainous Baron Blitzkrieg, Jeri Ryan as Jessica Danforth, JR Bourne as Double Down and Rutina Wesley as Lady Cop. It isn't known if there are plans in the works to bring back Matt Ryan for future episodes, but we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, take a look at the trailer and the full gallery of photos from next week's episode of Arrow, airing Wednesday, November 4 on The CW.
