The CW confirmed last month that the title character from CW Seed's animated web series Vixen will transition into live action, appearing on an upcoming Season 4 episode of Arrow. Actress Megalyn Echikunwoke, who voices Mari McCabe/Vixen on the web series will reprise her role in live action in this season's 15th episode, Taken, which doesn't have a premiere date confirmed yet. Today, DC Comics revealed the first official look at Megalyn Echikunwoke in the flesh as Vixen.
The Vixen character was created by Gerry Conway and Bob Oksner in 1981, first appearing in Action Comics #521 complete with her animal mimicking abilities. The character has gone on to be a member of the Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey and the Justice League of America. No details were given about how she appears in this episode, but it will follow the continuity of the web series.
In the Vixen web series, Mari McCabe is a street smart model who inherits a mysterious family heirloom that grants her the powers of the animal kingdom. Mari first met Green Arrow and the Flash during the debut season of her series, but fans won't have to wait until the second season of Vixen debuts to see her reunite with at least one half of that superheroic duo. It isn't known if there are plans to bring her back later on in Season 4, or if she will also cross over to The Flash.
The CW announced at their TCA winter tour panel that Vixen will be renewed for a second season, although it isn't known when the second season may debut. Network president Mark Pedowitz revealed the character may also get her own live action spinoff series, or transition over to the upcoming show DC's Legends of Tomorrow. That may all depend on how fans react to her appearance in this forthcoming Arrow episode.
While we wait for more details about Vixen's appearance in Arrow, take a look at the first official photo of this live action character below. Do you hope Vixen gets her own spinoff series, or joins DC's Legends of Tomorrow? We know several characters from both Arrow and The Flash will be joining that series, which debuts tonight on The CW, so it's certainly possible she could surface there.
