Stephen Amell has confirmed that Arrow will come to an end after Season 8. The CW show will return in the fall with an abbreviated season consisting of 10 episodes. It has been rumored for a few months that Amell was getting ready to leave, with many fans suggesting that his Oliver Queen character will not make it through the next Elseworlds crossover event later this year. That has yet to be confirmed, but CW president Mark Pedowitz recently revealed that at least one character will die in next year's crossover.

The Emerald Archer actor Stephen Amell was the first to officially announce the news. He did not go into details, but those will more than likely be coming down the wire soon. With that being said, there will probably be some very interesting twists in the upcoming final season. Amell had this to say.

"Playing Oliver Queen has been the greatest professional experience of my life... but you can't be a vigilante forever. Arrow will return for a final run of 10 episodes this Fall. There's so much to say... for now I just want to say thank you."

Series executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Beth Schwartz released a joint statement commenting on the decision to stop Arrow after Season 8. Like Stephen Amell, they did not go into any details as to why the show is coming to a close. The show is the CW's longest-running DC Comics series and it was just renewed for Season 8 back in January. You can read the statement from Berlanti, Guggenheim, and Schwartz below.

"This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we've made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of Arrow in mind. We're heartened by the fact that Arrow has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come. We're excited about crafting a conclusion that honors the show, its characters and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and - more importantly - the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years."

In addition to being the longest-running of The CW's DC shows, Arrow is also one of the top-rated. It helped to create the ArrowVerse, which has been a huge hit over the years that has brought all of the shows together in a fun and interesting way. It's not clear why now was the time to announce that the show is over, but the CW does have the Batwoman pilot on the way, which will more than likely end up getting picked up for a series order. However, that wouldn't completely explain why Arrow is coming to a close.

In addition to Stephen Amell, Arrow stars David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Echo Kellum, Katie Cassidy, Rick Gonzalez, Juliana Harkavy, Colton Haynes, Kirk Acevedo, and Sea Shimooka. Fans of the hit CW show will find this to be a shock, but more news should be coming down soon. In the meantime, we'll just have to wait for Season 8 to debut in the fall.
