With production already under way on Assassin's Creed, the cast is starting to fill out even more, with Brendan Gleeson and Jeremy Irons signing on to star. Brendan Gleeson has come aboard to play the father of Marion Cotillard's character, with Jeremy Irons playing the father of Michael Fassbender's Callum Lynch. They join a cast that also includes Ariane Labed, Michael K. Williams, Carlos Bardem and Denis Menochet.

The story is about a revolutionary technology that unlocks genetic memories. Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. Fans got their first look at Michael Fassbender's Callum Lynch back in August with the first official photo.

Justin Kurzel is directing from an adapted screenplay by Scott Frank, Michael Leslie, Bill Collage and Adam Cooper. Frank Marshall, Arnon Milchan, Jean-Julien Baronnet, Conor McCaughan, Fassbender and Pat Crowley are producing. The project is based on the wildly popular Assassin's Creed video game series, which has sold over 91 million units since it was first launched.

Back in August, it was revealed that the Assassin's Creed adaptation is set in the same video game universe, with the game franchise's head of content, Aymar Azaizia, teasing that "familiar faces" from the games will pop up in the movies. No other characters from the games have been confirmed at this time, but with casting still happening while production is under way, perhaps we could find out new details soon. Filming is currently happening in Malta, although it isn't known how long production is supposed to last.

Brendan Gleeson most recently starred in Edge of Tomorrow and Stonehearst Asylum. He will next be seen in Suffragette, opening October 23, In the Heart of the Sea arriving December 11 and The Free State of Jones, opening March 11, 2016. Jeremy Irons portrays Alfred Pennyworth in the highly-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and he will also be seen in the upcoming High-Rise.
