December has always been a big month for movies, with studios rolling out their potential awards season candidates and their last big-budget blockbusters for the year. This December, many will be looking towards the first Star Wars spinoff Rogue One (December 16) as the movie to beat at the box office, but just a few days after that movie's release, another possible blockbuster will debut, 20th Century Fox's Assassin's Creed, arriving on December 21. The studio debuted the first trailer and poster for this video game adaptation last week, but today we have yet another poster, featuring Michael Fassbender's Callum Lynch, perched precariously atop a tower, overlooking a seemingly peaceful city. And it pays perfect tribute to the original video game.

Michael Fassbender actually plays dual roles in Assassin's Creed, as Callum Lynch and a 15th century Spanish Assassin named Aguilar. The actor is joined by Marion CotillardMichael K. WilliamsJeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson. This poster, which arrives courtesy of the Assassin's Creed Movie Twitter page, reveals Michael Fassbender in his Aguilar costume. It has already been confirmed that this adaptation will be set in the same universe as the video game series.

Filming on Assassin's Creed began in Malta this past September. The story is about a revolutionary technology that unlocks genetic memories. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. Michael Fassbender hinted in an interview last year that Callum is an outsider who has been institutionalized since he was a teenager. The actor also described this character as a "lost soul" who finally starts to uncover his true lineage.

We reported back in March that 20th Century Fox and New Regency are already developing Assassin's Creed 2, with Michael Fassbender set to return as Callum Lynch. Assassin's Creed arrives in a very crowed Christmas market this December, opening just one week after Lucasfilm's first spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Collateral Beauty starring Will Smith. It will debut in theaters the same day as the big sci-fi epic Passengers starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. It's worth noting that 20th Century Fox started to develop a sequel to Fantastic Four several months before its release last August, long before the movie became a colossal flop for the studio, but we'll have to wait and see how Assassin's Creed 2 pans out.

Justin Kurzel, who directed both Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in the 2015 adaptation of Macbeth, is directing from a script by Bill Collage, Michael Cooper and Adam Leslie. The movie already has a built-in fan base from the beloved video game series, but we'll have to wait and see how many of them turn up to see Callum Lynch. In the meantime, take a look at this new poster below, and stay tuned for more footage from Assassin's Creed. We've included the first trailer from last week in case you missed it.
