Though it will have to contended with the first Star Wars spinoff Rogue One, genre fans are truly excited for the Assassin's Creed video game movie to finally hit theaters this Christmas! Today, we have a special behind-the-scenes look at this sci-fi action thriller with an E3 exclusive. Arriving straight from their big press briefing, Ubisoft and 20th Century Fox debuted all-new footage from Assassin's Creed. This featurette takes you directly on set with star Michael Fassbender and his director Justin Kurzel.
Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. This promises to be a thrill ride like no other ever released, with its unique take on time travel. And it should prove to be a blockbuster hit this holiday season.
Assassin's Creed reunites Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard with their Macbeth director by Ubisoft Motion Pictures, DMC Films and Kennedy/Marshall this Christmas. It was co-financed by RatPac Entertainment and Alpha Pictures, and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.
Michael Fassbender actually plays dual roles in Assassin's Creed, as Callum Lynch and a 15th century Spanish Assassin named Aguilar. It has already been confirmed that this adaptation will be set in the same universe as the video game series. Filming on Assassin's Creed began in Malta this past September and concluded earlier this year. Michael Fassbender hinted in an interview last year that Callum is an outsider who has been institutionalized since he was a teenager. The actor also described this character as a "lost soul" who finally starts to uncover his true lineage.
20th Century Fox and New Regency are already developing Assassin's Creed 2, with Michael Fassbender set to return as Callum Lynch. Assassin's Creed arrives in a very crowed Christmas market this December, opening just one week after Lucasfilm's Rogue One and Collateral Beauty starring Will Smith. It will debut in theaters the same day as the big sci-fi epic Passengers starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. The movie already has a built-in fan base from the beloved video game series, but we'll have to wait and see how many of them turn up to see Callum Lynch. While we wait, take a trip to the set of Assassin's Creed courtesy of Youtube and enjoy the excitement, adventure and laughs this thriller has to offer.
