Yesterday, fans finally got their first look at Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch in the highly-anticipated Assassin's Creed video game adaptation. With production set to begin on Monday, the video game franchise's Head of Content, Aymar Azaizia, held a Q&A session through Assassin's Creed's official Twitter account, where he shed some new light on this adventure. The executive revealed that the movie will be set in the same universe as the video game series, but will offer a whole new story, while teasing that fans may see some "familiar faces."

"We share the same universe. Elements in the film have consequences as in our games, comics, and books. It's a brand new story, w/ new characters set in our universe. It's possible you may find some familiar faces."

Aymar Azaizia also confirmed a report from last year, that revealed Michael Fassbender is actually playing two characters, Michael Lynch in present-day scenes, and his descendant from the Spanish Inquisition, an assassin named Aguilar de Agarorobo. It was revealed yesterday that his present-day character is actually Callum Lynch, who was created specifically for the movie adaptation. He also confirmed that the video game character Abstergo will be seen in the movie, but it isn't clear who is playing him yet.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. Assassin's Creed also stars Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard in the female lead, along with Ariane Labed and Michael K. Williams.

Justin Kurzel, who directed Michael Fassbender in the upcoming Macbeth, directs from an adapted screenplay by Scott Frank, Michael Leslie, Bill Collage and Adam Cooper. The film has already been set for release on December 21, 2016, so stay tuned for more updates as production gets under way next week.
