Screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos (Snow White and the Huntsman) has been hired to work on the script for Universal Pictures' sci-fi action tale Asteroids. Matt Lopez (Race to Witch Mountain, The Sorcerer's Apprentice) wrote the initial draft of the screenplay.

The project is adapted from the classic 1970s Atari video game, where players used a tiny space ship to blow up huge asteroids being hurled towards them. The movie will center on two estranged brothers who reunite to try and stop an eminent alien attack.

We reported in June that Roland Emmerich was offered to direct Asteroids. We haven't heard anything since then if the Anonymous director accepted the offer or not.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing Asteroids for Universal Pictures. It isn't known when production may begin.
