Austin Powers star Mike Myers has played things suspiciously coy when asked recently about the possibility of a fourth installment in the spy comedy series. Appearing on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Myers stated that he would “love” to do Austin Powers 4 before hinting that such a project may already be in development...

“I would love to do one. I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project; should it exist or not exist? You know, we’re, you know…”

Seeing a clear opportunity, hosts Cagle and Julia Cunningham took the chance to press Myers on his answer, with the comedian and actor replying, “It was a non-confirmed, confirmation confirmation.” Myers has said something similar in response to the sequel idea before, but surely, in the land of Hollywood and all its secrecy, not flat-out denying a potential project is near enough a confirmation? Right? So, it looks like we may finally be getting Austin Powers 4. Yeah, baby!

The first movie in the franchise, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, was released back in 1997 and is in large part a spoof of such famous spy outings as James Bond among others. Directed by Jay Roach and starring Mike Myers, Elizabeth Hurley, Robert Wagner, Seth Green, and Michael York, the first Austin Powers introduces audiences to the titular 1960s super spy. A flamboyant, promiscuous secret agent, Austin is put into cryostasis in order to stop his arch-enemy, with both being woken up again in the 1990s.

Austin struggles to acclimatize with the peculiar new era, tackling all the culture shocks, fembots, and penis-pumps that come his way. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery quickly became wildly popular, inserting itself into the cultural zeitgeist and being met with positive reviews and financial success.

The movie spawned several sequels, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me in 1999 and Austin Powers in Goldmember in 2002. While neither movie was met nearly as well as the first outing, both were hugely popular with audiences, and fans have waited and wondered whether an Austin Powers 4 would happen ever since. Well, based on Mike Myers’ most recent answer, Austin Powers 4 is clearly on his mind too.

Austin Powers Director is Also on Board With a Fourth Adventure

Mike Myers is not the only one on board with Austin Powers 4, with director Jay Roach recently saying, "I root for it too. I root for it to come back, and so does Mike. We all have for a long time, it's just always been, when the right story comes up and we know what it is, and that's pretty much up to Mike."

But what would Austin Powers 4 look like after all this time? A spoof of the James Bond movies, the sequel could shift in the same way that 007 has, beginning with Austin in a grim-and-gritty atmosphere akin to the likes of Casino Royale and No Time to Die before leaping back into the vibrant, flamboyant kind of film that Austin Powers is known for.

While we await the arrival of Austin Powers 4, Mike Myers can currently be seen in the Netflix series, The Pentaverate.
