It has now been ten years since the release of James Cameron's technological marvel, Avatar, and talk of the sequel (and the subsequent movies to follow) has started to heat up. Rumours of Stephen Lang's villainous Colonel Miles Quaritch's return to Pandora in Avatar 2 have been floating around for years, despite the character's death, but we now have the actor himself stating that it was always director James Cameron's intention to bring him back.

"Jim indicated to me years ago, before filming on Avatar was completed, that Quaritch had a future. I might have taken that with a grain of salt at the time because we'd had a few beers. Shortly after Avatar opened, Jim mentioned again that the Colonel was coming back, and by then I knew Jim well enough to know that he means what he says and he says what he means."

Though it sounds like their initial chat about Colonel Quaritch's resurrection began whilst the two were inebriated, Lang sounds pretty convinced that this was genuine from Cameron, and that bringing him back to continue to wreak havoc was indeed the plan all along. Lang's inclusion in the sequel adds to the movie's, and Pandora's, mystical aura, seeing as the character took two very large arrows to the chest during the first Avatar's climactic fight with our heroes Jake Sully and Neytiri, Quaritch will need the kind of miracle that only Eywa can provide.

Although Stephen Lang does not divulge any details as to how exactly Quaritch will make his big comeback, Cameron has previously mentioned that the universe's science fiction nature will come into play. Discussing the sequel way back in 2010, Cameron remained mysterious about how exactly he would be bringing the character back, but stated that the ""character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga".

Knowing as well that Lang's role will involve motion capture, it is possible that Quaritch will return as something not-quite-human this time. Picking up 12 years after first exploring Pandora and joining the Na'vi, Jake Sully has now formed a family with Neytiri as they are wandering across the expansive world of Pandora, meeting new allies in the form of the Metkayina free-diving clan led by Tonowari.

Everything changes when the R.D.A. once again invade Pandora to finish what they started.Written and directed by James Cameron, Avatar 2 stars a returning Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, and will bring into the fray Edie Falco, Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis. The sequel will also be bringing back Sigourney Weaver in a role equally as mysterious as Lang's return. The film is slated to release in December 2021. This comes to us from Deadline.
