A new official set image from Avatar 2 has been released. The massive set photo was posted on social media to announce that production has wrapped for 2019. James Cameron and crew are going to take a break for the holidays before jumping back into work early next year, bringing the long-awaited sequels closer to completion. The second installment is set several years after Avatar and will reportedly focus on Jake and Neytiri's children, but that has yet to be confirmed at this time.

The latest look at Avatar 2 shows that not everything in the movie is made up from CGI. The photograph is taken on a massive set, which includes a water tank and offers a Avatar 2 behind-the-scenes look at a craft called the "Sea Dragon." The set shows a ton of crew members, along with a ton of lights to illuminate the objects in and out of the water. You can read the caption from the photo below.

"That's a wrap, Na'vi Nation! It's our last day of live-action filming in 2019, and we're celebrating with a sneak peek. Check out this photo of the aft well deck section of the Sea Dragon, a massive mothership that carries an array of other sea-going craft in the sequels."

Fans have been waiting to see an Avatar sequel for years now and thankfully, we're only a little over a year away from seeing the first of four proposed sequels. Production officially started on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 on September 25th, 2017, which should indicate how much work is going on behind-the-scenes to make these sequels a reality. James Cameron is also set to revolutionize underwater CGI photography with the sequels.

Avatar 2 will explore the oceans of the moon Pandora and will see the returns of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Giovanni Ribisi. New cast members include Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Vin Diesel, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, and Edie Falco. James Cameron has some pretty huge plans for the franchise, which are all scheduled to roll out between next year and 2027. It's going to be interesting to see the director pull off everything over the next few years.

After some reconfiguring of the schedule, Avatar 2 release date was pushed back a full year from December 18th, 2020, to December 17th, 2021. Avatar 3 was pushed back two years from December 17th, 2021 to December 22nd, 2023. Avatar 4 will open two years after that and then Avatar 5 will drop on December 17th, 2027. However, the fourth and fifth installments will only open in theaters if James Cameron comes to believe that 2 and 3 are box office successes. Since it's been so long since the first installment hit theaters, this could be a pretty massive gamble. You can check out the latest set image below, thanks to the Avatar Twitter account.
