After the second Avatar film became a massive success at the global box office, Avatar 3, which at least two other Avatar films will follow, could introduce more new Na'vi tribes, according to director James Cameron.

The new Na'vi tribe could be wind-centric, according to Cameron's comments. In a recent interview with Deadline, Cameron suggested that "the Windtraders" may debut in the third Avatar movie. The Oscar-winning filmmaker described this previously unseen Na'vi tribe as "desert people... that trade, that travel around [Pandora]." However, Cameron did not specifically say that the "Windtraders" will appear in Avatar 3, meaning the tribe's debut could be in Avatar 4 or 5.

Regardless of which upcoming Avatar film will introduce the Windtraders, Avatar 3 will undoubtedly feature the Ash People, a new Na'vi tribe. In his recent interview, Cameron stated that the Ash People would appear in Avatar 3 and that their culture is built around the theme of fire, as their name implies. However, he also suggested that the Ash People won't necessarily be as kind as the Na'vi from the previous two Avatar films. "In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na'vi examples," said Cameron. "In Avatar 3, we'll do the reverse."

It is confirmed that portions of Avatar 3 were previously shot while Avatar: The Way of Water was being filmed. The third film of the Avatar franchise will hit theaters on December 20, 2024, so fans won't have to wait as long as they did between the first and second movies. Although there have been some rumors concerning Avatar 3's length, nothing is official yet. Additionally, there were other rumors concerning the third Avatar movie's title, but nothing about them was confirmed.

Producer Jon Landau stated that about 95% of Avatar 3's filming had been finished. In addition, Landau elaborated on Cameron's remarks on the friendliness of the Na'vis in the third movie, saying:

"There are good humans and there are bad humans. It's the same thing on the Na'vi side. Oftentimes, people don't see themselves as bad. What is the root cause of how they evolve into what we perceive as bad? Maybe there are other factors there that we aren't aware of."

Many of the same actors from the first film—Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana as Neytiri—will return for Avatar 3. Avatar: The Way of Water is currently showing at movie theaters.
