Avatar: The Way of Water continues to break records after entering the top 4 of the highest-grossing films in history globally, leaving behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The second part of the James Cameron saga recently gave the director the honor of being the only one in history to have 3 of the 4 highest-grossing films on the list, along with Titanic and the first installment of Avatar.

Now, according to Deadline, the film has just surpassed $1.538 billion at the international box office, despite being beaten at the domestic box office by M. Night Shyamalan's latest film, Knock at the Cabin, and Paramount Pictures' sports comedy 80 for Brady.

The Way of Water is now the third highest-grossing film internationally, putting Titanic on hold. But since the Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet starred film is returning to theaters next week to celebrate its 25th anniversary, it could soon take its place back. However, in the case of both the 1997 classic and The Way of Water managing to leave Avengers: Endgame behind, it would mark a massive moment in the director’s career.

Avatar 2 is also set to keep earning recognition throughout the awards season, with the film being nominated for four Academy Awards. Even though it’s not the favorite to take the Best Picture title, the movie has good chances in the production design, sound, and visual effects categories.
