Receiving largely positive reviews from critics, audiences were clearly ready and waiting for Avatar: The Way of Water, with the sci-fi sequel garnering over $2 billion at the box office and thus becoming not only the highest-grossing movie of 2022, but also the third highest-grossing film of all time.

Avatar: The Way of Water is just one of several planned sequels in James Cameron’s saga. A further three sequels have also been given release dates, with the multiple follow-ups scheduled to be released on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028, respectively.

While details of the third outing remain largely under wraps, Cameron has revealed some insight into what audiences can expect. The third chapter will introduce another, much more villainous tribe of Na’vi, a fire tribe known as the Ash People. "I want to reveal the Na'vi from another angle because [so far] I have only shown their good sides,” Cameron revealed. “In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na'vi examples. In 'Avatar 3,' we'll do the reverse."

So, once again, Avatar: The Way of Water is due for release via VOD from March 28.
