Given the huge success of Guardians of the Galaxy, many fans have been wondering whether or not these cosmic heroes will ever meet up with the Earth-bound Avengers. Director James Gunn revealed last month that his upcoming sequel Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will not help set up Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, but does that mean a crossover is completely out of the question? During an interview with Screen Junkies, James Gunn revealed that his Guardians franchise will not crossover with The Avengers.
"We really are separate from the Avengers, and I don't think people should assume too many things about the Guardians play in all this. We have our own galaxy to take care of. We have our own galaxy to save. Earth is the Avengers' province. Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it's going to happen."
Many fans thought that, since Guardians of the Galaxy gave us our first real look at Thanos (Josh Brolin), aside from the end credits scene in Marvel's The Avengers, a Guardians/Avengers crossover would be a sure thing. Of course, we still have several years to go before Avengers and Thanos go head-to-head in 2017's Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2019's Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, so if Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is just as big a hit as its predecessor, perhaps we'll see the Guardians giving Earth's Mightiest Heroes a hand with the Mad Titan Thanos.
