Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War is tracking for a huge opening weekend at the domestic box office with a $200 million-plus weekend haul, though that is a little lower than what Black Panther managed in its debut. The numbers could rise in the coming weeks, and as usual, Disney is conservatively tracking the epic movie in the $175 million to $200 million mark. The studio famously did the same thing with Black Panther, which blew away all of the early tracking predictions and practically doubled what Disney initially forecasted. There are some obstacles along the way, but it's beginning to look like Infinity War could end up with a new Marvel Cinematic Universe box office record.

Infinity War is the ten-year culmination of everything that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been working towards and has become one of the most anticipated movies of all time in the process. Black Panther opened with $202 million, which put it right behind the MCU's biggest opening, which is still the first Avengers film at $207 million. If Infinity War comes close to the same tracking patterns as Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, it will decimate the previous MCU record and end up with a new set of competitors in the top 5 highest domestic openings of all time.

Next on the list is Jurassic World, which opened at a little over $208 million, placing it in the number 3 position for highest domestic opening of all time. Again, if Infinity War follows recent trends, it should have no problem taking out the dinosaur movie. It gets a bit trickier when you get into the next bracket for the number 1 and 2 positions. Number 2 is The Last Jedi at $220 million and then The Force Awakens at number 1, with $247 million.

The marketing behind Infinity War has been excellent leading up to the release of the movie. Disney has been taking the same approach that they use for marketing Star Wars movies by not showing much footage and revealing next to nothing about the storyline. Actually, Infinity War may have taken the secrecy to a whole new level. The world premiere for the movie will be held on April 23rd, which is only 3 days before the Thursday night previews. The social media embargo lifts at 10:30 PM Pacific time on the 23rd as well and the review embargo is lifted the next morning.

Infinity War is tracking for a massive opening, but will it have what it takes to dethrone The Last Jedi or The Force Awakens? There's still a few weeks to go, so these numbers could very easily change. The Russo Brothers as well as the cast and crew are doing an excellent job of keeping the hype going without oversaturating the movie, leaving a bunch of mystery surrounding it, which is driving Marvel fans insane, much to the delight of the cast and crew. Infinity War officially opens on April 27th and you can check out the original tracking article for Infinity War at The Hollywood Reporter.
