While everybody is excited about Avengers: Infinity War and the latest trailer release, several fans have taken notice that Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye is nowhere to be found in any of the promotional material for the upcoming movie. Renner's name isn't even mentioned on the newest Infinity War poster, leading many to speculate about his whereabouts in the movie. However, the Russo Brothers have confirmed that Hawkeye "has a special spot in the film," and that he's on his "own journey."

In an interview from the set of Infinity War over the summer, the Russo Brothers were asked about the lack of Hawkeye. Joe Russo brought up the fact that Hawkeye was heavily aligned with Captain America's view at the end of Civil War, along with Falcon and Ant-Man. We know that Hawkeye, aka Clint Barton, does his own thing, living on a farm with his family, so this could be a major component of the Infinity War story. Joe Russo had this to say.

"Hawkeye, coming out of Civil War, is in the same position that Cap and Falcon are at the end of that movie. And Ant-Man. And coming into this movie characters who were on Cap's side coming out of the Civil War. Some made certain decisions and others made other decisions that led to different paths in them dealing with oversight in this movie in a different way. So Hawkeye's on his own journey in this movie."

The Infinity War prequel comics show a semi-retired Hawkeye, which falls in line with what Anthony Russo had to say about the character in the upcoming movie and after the events of Civil War. As it turns out, Hawkeye had a different response than the others after the last time we saw him. Russo doesn't go into any other detail, but it sure is intriguing. Anthony Russo explains.

"Yeah. He has a unique reaction to the Civil War situation that puts him in a special spot in this film."

Hawkeye may be more disillusioned than the rest of the team after the divisive incidents in Civil War, which might find him a lot less likely to jump back into action for Infinity War. There has been speculation that Avengers 3 could leave Hawkeye in a very dark place and there is a different look to the character in the set photos that we've seen from the set of Avengers 4. Some believe that we won't be even seeing Hawkeye and that we're instead seeing a different character, possibly Ronin.

Thankfully, we only have a few weeks to go before we figure out the true secret of Hawkeye's whereabouts in Infinity War. Could the death of one of the larger figures in the Avengers lead to Hawkeye being pulled out of retirement? Or maybe something more personal, like the death of his family? This is all speculation at this time, but the Russo Brothers have confirmed that there is a special place for Clint Barton in Infinity War.
