Ever since B.J. Novak joined the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 back in March, fans have wonder which character he is playing. The actor has now confirmed that he is playing someone from the original run of comic books. And that he works at Oscorp...But he wouldn't confirm his identity just yet.
"I'm in a couple of scenes. I was never told whether or not I could say. I can say that I work at Oscorp. And I am someone from the comic books, someone from the original. So, yeah, I'm somebody. I wouldn't say I'm pivotal, but I'm not an extra, either."
Since this character works at Oscorp, it's possible that the actor is playing Spencer Smythe, Oscorp's head of engineering, who was just featured in one of The Daily Bugle viral website articles this week. The first trailer that debuted yesterday goes onto hint at the inclusion of Doctor Octopus, whom the actor could also be playing.
In the comic books, Spencer Smythe invents the Spider-Slayer robots, which are built specifically to take out Peter Parker. Director Marc Webb did reveal a photo of the actor on set during production, and he very much looks the part (though he kind of has a Doctor Octopus vibe, too, and the actor fits in with the younger skewing villains).
