B.J. Novak has boarded director John Lee Hancock's Mary Poppins drama Saving Mr. Banks. Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Colin Farrell, Bradley Whitford, Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman and Ruth Wilson are already attached to the drama.

The film follows the story of P.L. Travers, the writer who created the iconic character Mary Poppins. It focuses on her struggle with bringing the film to life at Disney.

The actor will play Disney songwriter Robert Sherman, who wrote the Oscar-winning song "Chim Chim Cheer-ee" for the film. Emma Thompson will be playing the role of P.L. Travers with Tom Hanks portraying Walt Disney.

B.J. Novak is best known for his work on NBC's The Office. He also made an appearance in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.

Production will begin this September in Los Angeles.
